This project explored subtle abstractions in plant life and emphasized the formal components of each subject above all else. The final series of a dozen highly-curated images was whittled down from more than 500 photos taken over the course of several months. I used photoshop for color grading, but none of the photos are cropped or edited in any other way. Most were taken in greenhouses and nurseries across Maine and New Hampshire where I could control artificial light. I also took a few images outdoors in Georgia in natural light. I challenged myself to demonstrate how plant forms can evoke thoughts and feelings of abstracted external concepts. I developed a short narrative for each picture, including my view of its abstraction. Ultimately, however, it is the viewer who will interpret the images. This was my first attempt at compiling and revising a substantial portfolio of digital images. I was pleased with the outcome, both conceptually and visually.
