This series was made in Fall 2022 on a rock-climbing trip to the Italian part of Switzerland. Denti della Vecchia translates as “the old woman’s teeth” or “grandma’s dentures.” The name is apt, since the area is littered with beautiful white spires of rock that look like teeth protruding from the earth.
On this trip, I was teaching my climbing partner and dear friend some basic techniques, using an old Pentax K1000 we picked up for 10 francs. All the pictures of me, and most of the pictures that are out of focus, were taken by him. We passed the camera back and forth while snaking our way up crumbling chimneys and exposed spires. I will be the first to say that these are not technically impressive photographs. However, they accurately portray my memory of that trip and that friend, and they therefore hold a great deal of sentimental value. For these reasons, I have chosen to include them in my portfolio.
